English Foundation

That is exactly who English Foundation is for. The programme starts with basic sentence structure and word order, then builds a core of around 1,500 everyday words alongside present, past and future tense in practical use. Nobody in the room is ahead of you, because the whole batch starts from the same point.

Foundation runs three months and 36 classes, and for most absolute beginners that is the realistic minimum before IELTS preparation makes any sense. Some learners need a Spoken English or Grammar Combo course after it as well. We will tell you honestly when you are ready rather than selling you an IELTS seat too early.

There is a progress test every four weeks, which gives you three checkpoints across the three months. Listening practice also moves from slow speech towards natural speed as the programme goes on, which is its own measure of where you have reached. The tests exist to guide your practice, not to rank the batch.

Foundation batches are for adult and older learners starting English from the beginning, including university students, job seekers and people preparing to apply abroad. Children aged 6 to 14 are taught separately in Kids Spoken English, which uses a completely different activity-based method. Nobody is placed in a batch that does not match their age.
